In July first time novelists in the UK have the chance to be rewarded. On the 3rd one lucky writer will win the prestigious Desmond Elliott Prize and on the 10th a first time writer of children’s fiction will be awarded the Banford Boase Award.

The Festival calendar is not particularly long or spectacular but there are some events sprinkled across various continents.

Some interesting novels this month include The Emperor Waltz by Philip Hensher, Nobody is Ever Missing  by Catherine Lacey and two debuts: Edan Lepucki’s dystopian California and Jessie Burton’s historical suspense The Miniaturist. Of course there are many more, both on my list and beyond it.
