November is an interesting month in the awards calendar. In Canada we see the announcement of no less than 3 awards (Rogers Writers Trust, Scotiabank Giller and Governor General’s) while in the United States the National Book Award winner is announced. On this side of the Atlantic there are also several awards across the UK and Ireland.

Now that summer has passed the number of festivals has dwindled but there is still a fair number of events around the world for those who are ready to brave the November weather.

As the end of the year comes closer the publishing schedule slows down and we see fewer big names coming out with books. It is getting too late to build hype before Christmas. A couple of well known writers publishing novels this November are Richard Ford, Nick Hornby and Stephen King. It is a good time to discover writing in translation with books being published in English by writers such as Boualem Sansal, Louis-Philippe Dalembert and Nguyen Nhat Anh.
